Being that we are in May I wanted to write about mental health. May is the month for mental health awareness. Since January 2022 media outlets and social media blogs have been posting many news stories of tragic suicides. This year with us only being in the 5th month I've heard so much news of suicide it is heartbreaking. We are in a crisis. Our mind is in a constant battle with feelings of inadequacy, loneliness, worthlessness, guilt, you name it. How do we soldier on and fight the urge to quit and give in to our emotions?
We pray and seek God's face! In the midst of a storm (seasons of depression, anxiety, etc) it is essential that you seek God. You're not going to want to but you must. For your deliverance do not lose hope. The enemy wants you to give in and admit defeat but you have the victory. The battle is already won, Jesus did that on the cross.
So, let's get into the title of this blog post: Kingdom like Mind. What is a kingdom-like mind? To have a kingdom-like mind is to have a mind set on the things of Christ. God's will for us is to have peace. God does not call us to be in turmoil or to be depressed. These things are not of his kingdom. Romans 12:2 says "Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect." So, how do we renew our minds? First, we must submit our will and our thoughts to God. Give God free reign over your life and body. Allow him to be your Lord and Savior. My daily prayer is that I become more like Jesus. I ask God to renew my mind and cleanse my thoughts. Anything that's not of him I ask him to remove. Lord, make me more like you. Make me like what you like and dislike what you dislike.
Since we're human we will have times when our thoughts may get the best of us. We may get depressed from time to time or even get anxious. It is ok to acknowledge these emotions but don't dwell on them. Instead, go to Christ. 1 Peter 5:8 says "...casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you." Philippians 4:6 says ...do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your request be made known to God." He hears you and is faithful to deliver you. I say this from experience. I was once bound to depression and anxiety but God delivered me. I can proudly say through the grace of God I no longer struggle with those things.
So, today let's strive for a kingdom-like mindset. Let's cast our cares to God and have faith that he will give us peace and a sound mind. Reach out to a friend today and check on them. May God fill you all with peace.
