If I knew you'd be temporary I would have held my tongue

Wouldn't have easily shared the things I usually tell no one

I would've guarded my heart and kept my walls sky tall

Maybe then this pain wouldn't hurt at all

But that's not how this story goes

I let you in I was exposed

An open book you saw my flaws

The ugly the pretty you saw it all

You said you loved me when I thought I couldn't be loved

You fooled me to think that I was enough

Then you left

Your love was temporary like many things

I just wished you stayed, stayed for me

You see people warned me to guard my heart

I thought I was ready for love ready for this part

They say the funny thing about love is you have to be willing

Willing to fall willing to break willing to really feel the ache

But no words no forewarning can prepare you for this

Because when a heart breaks its hit or miss

Sometimes it's a slight fracture that can be patched up

Other times it's shattered and needs glue and stuff

Either way when a heart breaks it takes time to heal

That process can't be rushed you need to feel

Feel the pain feel the loss the betrayal too

Because once you're all patched up it's time for round two

Maybe this time it won't be temporary

Maybe this love will be true

He'll stay for real

It will all be new
